The Center for Wildlife would not be able to function without the help of our 20-25 Wildlife Care Volunteers. Being a volunteer in our medical clinic can be extremely rewarding and fun, but it is also a huge committment. Volunteers are asked to put in 4 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months in order to ensure that they are well trained in all areas of wildlife rehabilitation. Most of the duties asked of our volunteers are physical in nature, so volunteers need to be prepared to be on their feet for 4 hours and lift up to 50lbs.
In choosing Wildlife Care Volunteers, we look for individuals who:
- Are dependable and punctual, and understand that a missed shift means setting back the clinic
- Understand our goal is to give each animal a clean, comfortable, and stress-free environment
- Provide supportive care so that patients can receive intensive care from experienced medical staff
- Understand the need for quiet in a medical setting
- Are excited and motivated to learn natural history and best practices
- Work hard expecting only the satisfaction of helping injured and orphaned wildlife in return
- Respect wild animals and want to be a part of giving them a second chance
