The Warehouse Volunteer will provide assistance to clients in their food selection process in a variety of responsibilities and may serve in one of many positions such as warehouse greeter, aisle attendants, produce attendants, bakery attendants, meat attendants, and more.
We have 5 food distribution shifts each week. Scheduling is flexible to work once per week, once per month, one-time, etc. We are also in need of a sorting team. The sorting team processes delivered and donated product for warehouse inventory. We also need drivers to pickup food rescue items.
Food Distribution Shifts
Monday 5:15 p.m.- 8:30 p.m.
Tuesday 8:15 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
Wednesday 10:15 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Thursday 5:15 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.
Friday 11:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m.
Sorting Hours
Monday thru Friday 8 a.m - 12:00 p.m (noon)
Food For Greater Elgin (FFGE) is the second largest food pantry in Kane County. Our goal is to combat food insecurity in the most effective and supportive ways possible by giving our community the resources it needs.
Every week, Food For Greater Elgin hosts client-choice distributions offering both weekend and evening shifts for our clients’ convenience. This style of food distribution has been proven to lower waste while preserving the dignity of clients.
Shoppers can receive food twice monthly, and may choose from a variety of products, including meat, fresh produce, dairy, deli, and shelf-stable items, and are assisted by volunteers during the shopping process.

Description
Food for Greater Elgin is a regional client-choice food market (pantry) providing food assistance to low-income residents in Elgin, South Elgin and East Dundee, Illinois. Our clients have access to nutritious options including meat, dairy, produce and shelf-stable items and can shop during one of our five weekly distribution times. Our client-choice approach is the premier standard in food assistance, offering our clients ownership, dignity and the opportunity to choose foods that match their ethnic, dietary or family needs. Each month, we serve more than 1,200 households with almost 6,000 individuals, half of whom are children.
Food for Greater Elgin is aggressively addressing food insecurity in our community with ending hunger as our ultimate goal. As we continue to build strategic, collaborative partnerships we are striving to be the primary resource for food in our region. Despite misconceptions about hunger and poverty, food assistance stabilizes lives. When our clients have the food they need for physical nourishment, they can can address their other basic human needs.
Ultimately, food security helps children excel in school, improves productivity in the workplace, keeps seniors healthy and provides ongoing family stability. We know that food is a catalyst for change!
