Our ESL tutoring program is in need of one or two individuals available during the week who can offer current students with one-hour, private tutoring classes with an APDC volunteer teacher. Many of our students have participated in our program for some time, but need the opportunity to have additional practice with someone outside the classroom. Our Adult Basic Education (ABE) students are advanced level English students who are in need of additional help building their basic math skills as they progress from ESL classes into broader educational fields. A majority of the students in the ABE class are working towards getting their GED or other similar goal. One on one math assistance would be with students who range between a 3rd grade and 9th grade level of math.
Volunteers are able to decide their schedule and how many hours they would like to teach, but we do ask that volunteers commit to at least 10 weeks. Classes can be given during the day, Monday through Friday, and Monday through Thursday evenings, from 5:00pm-8:00pm.
