Heartland Hospice serves patients wherever they call home. It may be in a nursing home, assisted living facility, group home, or in their own home. Volunteer requests are requested from staff, families, and patients for increased socialization and companionship. Friendly Visitor Volunteers spend time with individuals receiving Heartland Hospice services in Mosinee and Knowlton communities. Activities include reading to patients, playing cards, going on walks, helping with errands, listening, or holding someone's hand. Volunteers can see patients 2 times, 3 times, or 4 times per month.
Volunteers with a military background are needed to provide additional support and companionship to patients receiving hospice services that are veterans. A fellow veteran may be able to relate well to the patient to help enhance their final months of life. Other opportunities such as presenting certificates and pinning ceremonies may also be asked of our veteran volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers in communities including but not limited to Stevens Point, Whiting, Plover, Dancy, Junction City, Torun, Garfield, Nelsonville, Polonia, Stockton, Bancroft, Almond, Amherst, Amherst Junction, Custer, New Hope, and Peru in Portage County.
