About

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia currently operates out of our location at 1714 9th Street in SE Roanoke, Virginia. Right now we are looking for driven people from the community who would like to give back to young members of their community by helping our kids during our after-school program. We invite all local adults to come work with our programs to help our students grow in their professional and academic pursuits. Our Club provides an outlet for members of the community to invest their time and effort into members of our club so that our children can enjoy brighter futures. If you enjoy working with kids and providing them with better opportunities educationally and professionally, this is the place to be!!

We are looking for Mentors for our club our 9th Street Club in SE Roanoke, Virginia. Mentors with The Boys & Girls Club are volunteers who get the opportunity to spend time building a positive adult relationship with our club members by providing educational support and/or programming specific to the educational or professional background of the volunteer (Mentor). Our Club provides an outlet for members of the community to invest their time and effort into members of our club so that our children can enjoy brighter futures. Through our Mentoring program we hope to build relationships between our Mentors and members that fosters our childrens hunger for knowledge and improvement in their own lives. We encourage our Mentors to volunteer at least one day, one hour per week, but this is not a requirement and we are willing to accommodate your work schedule.

Our Club is open during the school year in the afternoon from 2pm to 7 pm Monday through Friday. Our 9th Street Club follows the Roanoke City Public Schools schedule for holidays and closings. All volunteers must complete a Boys & Girls Clubs volunteer application and pass an annual criminal background check. The best time to tutor or mentor is between 2:45pm and 5:30pm, Monday through Friday. If you are interested in this opportunity or volunteering during a time not listed above, please contact Jacob Berghuis our Volunteer Coordinator at jberghuis@BGCSWVA.org
