YES Prep, and other schools including East End Early College HS, Incarnate Word Academy, CyWoods HS, Lone Star College, St. Thomas University, Rice University and University of Houston make a difference at Japhet Creek Nature Park.

Activities at Japhet Creek Nature Park clean-ups include picking up trash, planting native trees and bushes, clearing the paths of vines and tree limbs, mulching around trees and on pathways, removing non-native plant species, and other outdoor tasks. Groups of volunteers may be working along the banks and in the waterway. If applying as a group, please give information on number and age(s) of members. If under 18, you must have one adult chaperone per 10 children, and have our release form signed by parent/guardian.

Mission Statement

Japhet Creek Nature Conservancy is dedicated to the restoration of the natural beauty of Japhet Creek and Japhet Creek Park as a much-needed green space to Houston's East End, to the preservation of the creek as a linear green finger to provide a organic filter for water entering Buffalo Bayou, and to encourage its use for light recreation for citizens of the East End.

Description

Japhet Creek Nature Conservancy establishes partnerships with other environmental organizations, works with appropriate governmental and non-governmental agencies, citizens and businesses to preserve and maintain Japhet Creek Linear Green Finger Park; to educate citizens and students to the importance of natural waterways, history of Houston and local environmental issues; and to encourage personal responsibility for the cleanliness and health of Houston's waterways.
