Mentor/Tutor for Nonprofit Charity
52 people are interested
We are seeking current university students or recent graduates to support at-risk struggling/failing middle school students who are in need of individual support to help them succeed academically. Our nonprofit charity's SEA (Successful Educational Achievement) Program aims to help the students we serve on the path to academic success and a brighter future. We only serve those who could not otherwise afford this much needed help.
Mentoring requires a commitment of one hour, twice weekly per student during after-school hours (typically Monday through Friday, anytime between 3:30 - 6:30 pm; timing may vary at specific sites where there may be an "early out"). You can choose to work with one or more students, depending on your availability.
All our mentors are vetted and trained prior to commencing. Our focus is academic improvement, however it is also critical to develop a caring rapport with the student, so they feel they have an ally in confronting the academic challenges they face.
Areas where we currently need mentors: Oxnard, Thousand Oaks, Malibu, Santa Monica, Westchester, Culver City, South Los Angeles and Pico Rivera.
