Gerinet Healthcare/Hospice is looking for volunteers to provide pet therapy to enhance the quality of life for our hospice patients and their families. Pet Therapy can provide emotional and healing support as an adjunct to the patient's plan of care. Locations vary in the Las Vegas/Henderson areas and are wherever our patients call home - hospital, skilled nursing facility, group home, hospice in-patient unit, or their home.
Dog Eligibility Requirements:
- Animal must be canine (dog), excluding wolf or wolf-mix breed
- Minimum of one year of age
- Completed an approved pet therapy program that complies with Gerinet Hospice's policy and must be certified as a therapy dog
- Have a health certificate throught a Pet Therapy organization or an independent veterinarian which will include:
a. Provision Health and Safety Annual Certficiation which includes:
i. Validation of examination and dog's general good health
ii. Participation in an active flea prevention program
iii. Current vaccinations
iv. Temperament
**All other requirements will be discussed during meeting with Volunteer Coordinator**
