Docent

Docents are formally trained museum guides that introduce the museum and its collection to both students and adults. Docents are history generalists and are trained in the museum’s collections and exhibits. They give specific curriculum-structured tours to students and tours of the collection and special exhibitions to the general public at least twice a month. Docents have diverse backgrounds, but all have a desire to share their love of Colorado history and railroading using interactive teaching techniques and following the museums interpretive themes for both the general public and school audience.

Duties:

Tour Guides: Docents offering more formal programs will provide a specific reserved program for one of the wide variety of audience groups that visit the museum.

Ask Me Hosts: Are volunteers who have received the interpretive training and while on site for various other activities wear an "Ask Me" button alerting visitors to the fact of their knowledge and ability to answer museum related questions.
