9/11 Day of Service!
HELP THE HOMELESS LIVING IN SHELTERS!
Host a Stuffed Shirt Event at your office or your home!
Many homeless find themselves moving from one homeless shelter to another, carrying all of their clothes and other possessions in trash bags. Additionally, many homeless have limited and inconsistent access to personal care items, like soap, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, etc. We can help in a number of ways! Gather your friends, family, etc. and ask them to bring new or gently used soft suitcases, duffel bags and large backpacks, or, if bringing a soft suitcase isn't possible, bring a clean, new or gently worn XL t-shirt to your home or workplace. Also, ask your participants to bring small bottles of shampoo, conditioner, soaps, wash cloths, deodorant, tooth brushes and toothpaste, body lotions, shaving cream, cotton swabs, and any other personal care items you might think of to your event. Please also include baby wipes, diaper cream, kids' wipes, kids' shampoo and conditioner as well as kids' toothbrushes and toothpaste if possible.
You determine the time and place! Do it for 9/11 Day of Service!
1: have your event-mates pack the soft suitcases and duffel bags with the personal care items, OR
2: lay out the t-shirts, and put the personal care items in the center of the t-shirts. Wrap the shirt up around the items like a sack/bag, and tie it with a ribbon or string.
You might find that swapping and sharing the personal care items will insure that each t-shirt "bag" or suitcase has variety. For a nice personal touch, you can make a label with a goodwill wish and attach it to the ribbon or string, or the handle of the suitcase, etc.

Our program creates a bridge between communities with "more" and some of our country’s poorest areas.
