Lead Conversational English class for Bridges to College students
ORGANIZATION: JVS, Jewish Vocational Service
Please visit the new page to apply.
JVS is seeking a volunteer to facilitate a conversational English class on Monday afternoons. This is not an academic class--it is offered to immigrant students in JVS' Bridges to College program who want to work on conversation, pronunciation, and speaking confidence. The volunteer can bring subjects to discuss--from current events to sports to pop culture. Class size is approximately 8 students.
Weekly commitment for at least 3 months, though the entire semester is preferable so students have the consistency of working with the same person for the whole term.
Program/Department Overview:
The Bridges to College program at JVS is a 23-week college preparation program. The program is structured to help students improve their English, math and skills such as time management, critical thinking, and study skills. Our Bridges to College program is designed to ensure that students bypass developmental non-credit bearing courses and enter college at the college credit level classes. Individuals accepted into the Bridges to College program will be required to attend a minimum of 13 hours a week with academic instruction, academic coaching and tutoring to develop the skills necessary to excel in a college environment. Bridges to College is a unique program that will also continue to work with program graduates throughout their college career and offers FREE job search assistance during the final semester of college
