The Adelante Program provides homeless families in the San Luis Valley with a safe environment, intensive case management, program referrals, and supportive services to promote self-sufficiency and independence to end homelessness. Nationwide, children are the fastest growing population of the homeless, making services like the Adelante program crucial to the future of low-income youth. AmeriCorps members serve as case managers to families, offering guidance, resources, and accountability to families as they embark on the journey to self-sufficiency. Through weekly house visits and life skills classes, case managers partner with the families to make sure they are on track to accomplish their goals. Upon graduation of the program, families have learned coping skills, financial management skills, parenting skills, increased the education level for the heads of household and so much more. If you are passionate about ending the cycle of poverty with families, excited to see people accomplish their goals, and are able to offer strong leadership, this program would be a great fit for you. It is incredibly helpful to be able to speak Spanish, as the majority of clients speak Spanish as their first language.
