The Family Education Program is a part of the Backside Learning Center, which provides education and social services to the people who work on the backside, or stable area, of Churchill Downs. In this program, parents attend English-as-a-Second-Language classes while their children receive simultaneous homework assistance. We need tutors to work one-on-one with the children (ages 5 - 18). Many of the parents who work on the backside of Churchill Downs struggle to help their children with homework due to their own education and English language experience. We rely heavily on dedicated volunteers to act as tutors and mentors to the children who attend this after school program. It takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 7:00. We ask our volunteers to make a weekly commitment to volunteer either Tuesday or Thursday. Please let us know if you are interested in making this commitment to help a child learn and succeed!
