The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
In a little over 2 years we have progressed from very basic ideas: like the sounds of each letter to more advanced concepts such as identifying nouns, pronouns, verbs and adjectives. We have used a variety of materials like newspapers, games and recipes. Adwa is proud that she is able to apply what she has learned. She enjoys speaking English with the customers on her job. She is better able to help her daughters with their homework.
One-to-one tutoring for adults, 18 or older, who speak and understand English and read below an 8th grade level. Meet twice-a-week, 1.5 hours per session for a minimum commitment of 6 months.
Ready To Read: tutoring for children, 4th-12th grade, reading below grade level. Meet twice-a-week after school, 1 hour per session usually during the school year, but sometimes also during summer and breaks if that is convenient with everyone's schedule.
Attend a free 15-hour Workshop. No experience is required!
