We are looking for a volunteer who is willing to work in the Arlington community to teach Computer skills to beginner Spanish-speaking adults in the Buckingham Gardens neighborhood. The classes would meet once a week for about an hour in the evenings on weekdays.
Classes would meet in the César Chávez Community Center in Buckingham Gardens, a few minutes from Ballston Mall. We have a community room available for use and supplies will be provided. There is also access to computers and wifi.
Potential teachers would ideally have a background in Computers and be knowledgeable on working with all levels of ESL students or willing to learn. We expect you to be committed to plan and teach weekly, ongoing classes and let us/students know ahead of time when class may be cancelled. We would like to set up a brief meeting of introduction before you start teaching.
We need working knowledge of Spanish.

Description
BU-GATA, short for Buckingham and Gates of Arlington , was established by Latino renters in 1992.
BU-GATA was created to stop displacement from a neighborhood multi-family complex, the Gates of Arlington. As the organization grew stronger, residents began to broaden BU-GATA’s focus to include community stability, and in 1998, addressed another neighborhood need - youth leadership development - by creating the Buckingham Youth Brigade.
As a community-based non-profit, BU-GATA has focused on defending tenants, educating residents about their rights, and fighting to preserve the community when gentrification threatens.
BU-GATA's mission is to serve Arlington's low-income, immigrant communities through education and leadership development programs, focusing on education and civic engagement in public policy issues.
