Our Westchester campus has three programs: Hawthorne Cedar Knolls Treatment Center, The Jerome M. Goldsmith Center for Adolescent Treatment (RTF) & The Sally & Anthony Mann Center (RTF). Each program provides residential treatment for adolescents and young adults, ages 12-22. Adolescents participate in intensive milieu therapy, individual, family, and group psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, special education and vocational training, all in an open setting.
We offer two vocational and life skill training volunteer opportunities at our Westchester campus programs. They are:
1. Volunteer Vocational Trainer
As a volunteer vocational trainer, you can talk to our teens about your career path and help them gain life and job skills to be successful in the workforce.
Potential Discussion Topics:
-- What important decisions were made along the way?
-- Professionally, how did you get to where you are?
-- Were there important people that guided your career decision(s)?
-- Required schooling/training for current position?
-- What is interesting about your profession?
Teachable Skills:
-- Resume/CV writing
-- How to interview, for example: Phone, email, written and in-person communication techniques, do's and don'ts of interviewing, or mock interview practice
2. Host a Bring-A-Student-To-Work Day
As a Bring-A-Student-To-Work Day host, you can provide a fun, hands-on, interactive experience for our residents by hosting them at your office. The exposure to an exciting workplace is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students.
Some Ideas:
-- Take a teen (or group of teens) on a tour of your office
-- Introduce them to key people
-- Have colleagues present a meaningful workshop (topics to vary)
Currently residents have specifically expressed interest in the following job industries: Culinary, Music Recording and Production, Veterinary Studies, Arts, Technology, Finance, Athletics, Beautician and more!

JBFCS serves over 55,000 New Yorkers annually from all religious, ethnic, and economic backgrounds through a comprehensive range of 175 community-based programs, residential facilities, and day-treatment centers. Our work is built upon the professionalism and compassion of 2,200 employees, including professional social workers, licensed psychologists, and psychiatrists, as well as a cadre of clinical support personnel in continuing day treatment and residential treatment centers. A corps of 800 dedicated volunteers work with our staff to help ease the burdens that strain and disrupt the lives of our clients.
Description
What began over a century ago as a network of volunteers bringing food and clothing to poor Jewish families is now one of the nation's largest and most comprehensive mental health and social service agencies. Leaders in the field of human services, we proudly serve people of all faiths, races and cultures promoting well-being, resilience and self-sufficiency for individuals and families at every stage of life. Service defines us best. Every night of the year, more than 1,000 men, women and children sleep in residences under our care. Every week of the year, more than 2,500 people receive counseling from professionals on our staff . JBFCS, a beneficiary of the UJA-Federation of New York, is a place of clinical excellence and compassionate care: For the mother and her children seeking refuge from domestic violence. For the family coping with caring for a developmentally disabled child. For the parent facing depression and despair following job loss. For the couple struggling to maintain a loving relationship. For the toddler showing early signs of developmental delays. For the child bearing the trauma of abuse and neglect. For the teen grappling with the challenges of mental illness and becoming a productive young adult. For the older adult fighting depression and anxiety related to age and loss. Whatever the stage of life, whatever the overwhelming stress may be, JBFCS represents this city's most experienced first line of response.
