About Asphalt Green
Asphalt Green is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals of all ages and backgrounds achieve health through a lifetime of sports and fitness. Our three main community programs reach over 33,000 New Yorkers and include: Waterproofing, which teaches elementary school children how to swim; Recess Enhancement Program, which sends a "play coach" to schools to get kids active during recess; and Community Sports League (CSL), which provides Harlem middle school students the chance to play interscholastic organized sports.
Job Description
As an integral member to the Community Sports League staff, you will be responsible for producing fun, highly detailed and engaging game write ups. You will write out the play by play, interview players, take action shots and choose your game MVP. Your submission will be included in the weekly newsletter and given out to all league participants.
Location:
Asphalt Green--555 East 90th Street
Hours: Soccer, Saturdays 7:00pm - 9:00pm, Basketball Saturdays 10:00am-12:00pm
Duration: January 2018 - June 2018
Duties:
-Take notes on games every Saturday
-Write a recap of each game in the style of a sports reporter. Who were the stars? Was it a close game? Was there a comeback?
-Interview players, parents, coaches to add to your piece
-Type up your notes and send to our newsletter coordinator by Tuesday morning
-Provide general assistance to AG’s CSL staff in maintaining order and a safe, positive environment
Qualifications
-Excellent writing skills
-Must be able to meet deadlines and respond to emails quickly
-Must be creative, outgoing and able to speak with kids in a relatable way in order to get fun and full stories
-Background in Sports, Communications, or other related discipline is a plus
