Fashion Designers - Train & Empower the Marginalized in India!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: IDEAS

Are you a fashion designer who wants to bring your skills to empower and transform the lives of women? If so, the Fashion Designers in India program is for you!

Spend two weeks and change your life forever.

The Fashion Design Program will provide job skills training to Dalits and other poor, marginalized peoples as a means to provide them with marketable skills to earn an adequate income. There will be a special focus on training women who have come out of human trafficking situations and need rehabilitation and reintegration into society with the ability to attain gainful employment.

The Dalits, also known as the "untouchables" and "outcastes," make up nearly one quarter of India’s 1.2 billion society, with population estimates of 250 million people. The Dalits are history’s longest standing oppressed people group.

Qualified applicants could contribute in the following ways:

  • Work with our partner headquarters team, learn about our work, culture, the fashion needs of women and men in India and the customs of the fashion industry in India. Further learn about the Dalit, poor marginalized people, as well as trafficked women, considering their economic needs, and how fashion designer skills can empower them to better livelihood.
  • In cooperation with our partner’s leadership, develop a fashion designer skills training class that will be relevant to a wide variety of types of people (i.e., older teenage girls as technical education; church leaders’ wives needing a vocation; women coming out of trafficking needing to earn an honest wage, etc.), and transferable to a variety of cultures within India. Document the curriculum, run pilot programs, make revisions and implement.
  • Train Indian trainers/leaders to take over the fashion designer training program and implement it on a national and regional level as appropriate.
