Educational Life Skills Mentors Needed at London Middle School
Who: HandsOn Suburban Chicago (HOSC) needs reliable mentors like YOU to provide students with developmental disabilities the support they need to flourish in school and beyond.
What: Educational Life Skills Mentoring bolsters students’ social communication and prevocational skills by offering them the chance to form stable, trusting relationships with dedicated community members. Under the supervision of teachers and aides, volunteers will work one on one with students, getting to know them by discussing assigned topics and facilitating teacher-led activities that promote fine motor skills development.
When & Where: Educational Life Skills Mentoring will begin in early October and run through mid-March. The program will take place on Wednesdays from 12:40-1:20 pm at London Middle School (1001 W Dundee Rd, Wheeling, IL 60090). Mandatory orientation and training will take place in September. We ask volunteers to commit to serving once a week from October through March. Applicants must be willing to undergo a background check.
Why: Mentoring is a fun and rewarding experience. Volunteers have consistently reported that working with students has boosted their self-confidence and given them an incredible sense of satisfaction in knowing their contributions have positively impacted their mentees.
