ORGANIZATION: Denton County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

Site Director- Responsible for overall site management. Strong management and interpersonal skills needed. Good at directing large teams and thinking on your feet.

Security-Responsible for overall visual security and reporting any concerns to onsite law enforcement and Site Director. Provides traffic control inside or outside.

Safety-Responsible for ensuring that basic safety precautions are followed and enforced. Promotes a safe and operational facility for large crowds and children. Usually former military, security, safety officials or electricians.

Counselor/Chaplain-Degreed professional provides basic counseling or religious support services to guest during a disaster response and reports areas of concern or that require focused attention to the Counselor Coordinator.

Communications-Responsible for Ham Radio Operations at the facility. Must possess Ham License.

Health Education-Responsible for providing Health Education regarding current disease/threat (info provided by CDC or Health Authority). Should be comfortable speaking to large groups

Staff/Volunteer Coordinator-Should possess excellent people and organization skills and be very detail oriented.

Greeter-Provides warm and engaging professional welcome setting the stage for a positive experience in the shelter or POD. Organized, attentive and great with people.

Interpreter-Provides language translation skills for guest in a shelter or POD with limited English speaking capabilities. This assignment usually includes an alternate job assignment. (Includes ASL)

Planning/IT-Completes data entry for all state or federal paperwork and ensures accuracy of information being tracked. Also responsible for the facility set up & take down.

Logistics-Responsible for monitoring and distributing POD or shelter supplies. Will coordinate tracking and ordering of additional resources that may be needed including meals for volunteers when they are not available on site.

Supply-Responsible for monitoring, tracking and re-ordering drug inventory at a POD. Ensures that drugs are not depleted during mass dispensing event.

Medical & Support Team

Clinic Manager-Experienced licensed RN or Pharmacist who is responsible for overseeing the operations of a clinic in a shelter or POD. Will direct clinic staff to ensure that medical standards are set and maintained during an emergency.

Triage/Vaccinator/ Dispenser-Provides basic triage, vaccinations or pill dispensing at a shelter or POD. Licensed Professionals including EMT, LVN, and RN or licensed Phlebotomist.

Physician/Medical Evaluators-Provides medical support, direction/recommendations in a shelter or POD. Licensed professionals including MD, DO, Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Assistant

Entrance/Exit Interviewer-Experienced RN reviews prescriptions to ensure that contraindications have been considered and provides additional educational as appropriate.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Denton County Medical Reserve Corps is to assist the local community during a public health emergency by providing a rapid, coordinated and specific response.

Description

The Denton County Medical Reserve Corps, is a program of the Denton County Health Department, Health Emergency Alert Response Team. Denton County is located in the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex and includes both suburban and rural areas. The population is estimated to include approximately 700,000 residents. MRC was put in place to support health emergencies and natural disasters with health implications when local resources are stretched to capacity. The MRC assists with major public health needs and provides shelter support to displaced victims (typically Hurricane victims from the coast). Our unit partners with the CERT, Red Cross, VOAD, a variety of non-profit partners, schools, and Cities and appropriate County responders to develop a coordinated response to a disaster. Our volunteers come from a variety of professional backgrounds including medical, mental health, administrative, corporate and education.
