Boulder Valley Inner City Outings is an all-volunteer outreach program of the Sierra Club that takes children from low-income families on free nature outings to enrich their lives and to build a new and more diverse generation of environmental stewards. We will launch a tenkara academy in spring of 2016 that needs volunteers to teach tenkara casting, kebari tying, and general principles and etiquette of fly fishing.
Tenkara is a minimalist form of fly fishing well-suited for use on the hiking and backpacking trips that are the mainstay of Boulder Valley ICO. Our academy will include local, single-day flycasting events and multi-day car camping and backpacking trips that also feature fly fishing.
To get started, please visit the volunteer page of our website and follow the instructions to "Quick Join" the program.

Mission Statement
Boulder Valley Inner City Outings aims to enrich the lives of our participants and to instill in these children wonder and respect for nature and wilderness. We are a non-political entity, focused on sharing our love of the outdoors with children who would not have these experiences any other way.
Description
Boulder Valley Inner City Outings is an outreach program of the Sierra Club that takes children from low-income families in Boulder County on free nature outings and wilderness adventures. Our outings include everthing from snowshoeing to multi-day backpacking.
We do not preach environmentalism to participants. Instead, we take children to amazing places at let nature to the talking.
We also run a free youth leadership for program participants that teaches the basics of outdoor leadership, advanced outdoor skills, some earth and life science, critical thinking skills, and the basics of environmental stewardship.
We also run a water sampling and fly fishing program in partnership with the City of Boulder, Boulder Flycasters, and Water Sentinels (the Sierra Club's national water sampling and stewardship program).CAUSE AREAS
