ORGANIZATION: HOPEWELL MUSIC COOPERATIVE-NORTH

As a music school we receive large quantities of music that we need help cataloging and organzing so that our teachers can easily and quickly find material they need in a lesson with a student. Perfect opportunity for those who enjoying organizing and have an interest in library science. Volunteers interested in this opportunity will be asked to perform the following duties:

  • Categoraize music with supervision of Hopewell staff member
  • File and sort music
  • Throw away any music that is unusable or damages
  • Report any issues to Outreach Coordinator or on-site staff member

All volunteers are required to undergo a volunteer background check and attend a volunteer orientation.

Hopewell’s mission is to improve access to music education in North Minneapolis through affordable, inclusive, and engaging music programs.

Description

Due to long-standing issues of inequity, North Minneapolis residents have not had the same opportunities in music as those living in more affluent areas. Hopewell Music seeks to empower Northsiders of all backgrounds to express themselves creatively by removing barriers to an education in music. Sliding scale tuition is available for folks on federal or state assistance which removes financial barriers to music lessons, music classes, workshops, and camps. Our music school is also located on the Northside, providing a safe and affordable option for music education right in the neighborhood. In addition, Hopewell offers six ensembles that are free and open to anyone in the Northside community, so North Minneapolis musicians can come to make music with one another.
