Support a library for children in Nicaragua

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Proyecto Mosaico e.V.

This library for children was founded in 2011 by a family. The project aims at providing children and youth of this rural community with educational opportunities that support and transcend the educational means of the local public school. In the library, the kids have access to books, can play and are supported while doing their homework. Every other Saturday, the library organizes different kinds of workshops on topics like environmental education, sports, theatre, music, arts and crafts as well as games and competitions. To keep the library working and to continue with and to further this range of activities, the library needs the help of volunteers.

Mission Statement

Proyecto Mosaico - Unite. Learn. Grow. *Our Vision* We are committed to international understanding, the protection of natural resources, and the promotion of human rights.

Description

Proyecto Mosaico is a German non-profit association based in Berlin/Germany with an office in Granada/Nicaragua. The focus of our work is coordinating international volunteers to organizations and projects in various countries in Central America. In addition to the coordination of volunteers, we are actively engaged in our own projects in the fields of environmental education and water and we increasingly conduct networking activities and capacity building for our local partner organizations.

We partner with local organizations that specialize in the following areas: EDUCATION & SOCIAL WORK, WOMEN, and/or ENVIRONMENT. We support organizations by providing educational, work, and networking activities, individual consulting, and support for project planning and implementation. We also assist in the collection and distribution of cash or in-kind donations.

We see volunteering as one of the best ways to promote communication and understanding between people from different cultures and thus contribute to international understanding. Our approach to volunteering is defined by equal cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships. As part of our work, we put great value on both sides - organizations and volunteers - benefiting through cooperation. We strive to ensure this mutual benefit by providing robust consulting for our volunteers, keeping close contact with our partner organizations, and offering training and informational events.
