ORGANIZATION: METROPOLITAN OPERA NATIONAL COUNCIL AUDITIONS - UPPER MIDWEST REGION

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

The Minnesota District of the Metropolitan Opera Auditions welcomes volunteers.

Young opera singers from around the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico compete for $15,000 cash prizes and the chance to perform on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera House when the Met’s National Council Auditions holds its annual auditions. Over 1,500 young singers participate in the National Council Auditions the longest-running singing competition in the country. Volunteers across the country manage the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, which began in the Twin Cities in 1954. Each District raises money locally for their auditions - for the singers’ awards and the event expenses.

Members of the Met’s artistic staff and other professionals from the opera world volunteer to judge the auditions and give each singer feedback, which includes career advice and ideas on future prospects. Hundreds of volunteers help the Met organize and fund the National Council Auditions in their respective Districts. For the past 62 years, volunteers have generously given of their time, money and support to assist young singers in making it to the next level in their careers. The Metropolitan Opera is grateful for the volunteers’ commitment.
