Anoka CAN Deliver is a program that delivers food shelf groceries and social interaction to homebound senior citizens in Anoka County. It was created by a consortium of food shelves in Anoka County that includes: Southern Anoka County and Centennial Food Shelf Service Areas which inlcude the cities of: Hilltop, Columbia Heights, Fridley, Spring Lake Park, Columbia Park NE MPLS, Blaine, Lexington, Circle Pines, Centerville, and Lino Lakes.

This position is critical for the success of the CAN mission to provide food shelf groceries and build positive relationships with homebound senior citizens in Anoka County. This individual must be willing to deliver food and to meet with a homebound adult once a month. This individual must be able to listen to the adult assigned to him/her in order to communicate concerns, successes, or other information to the CAN Lead after each visit. This position will require approximately 2-3 hours per month.

Volunteers can work individually, or with their small group, friends, or family in order to develop a relationship with a homebound adult.

Required:

  • Must pass background check

  • Attend training/orientation

  • Be willing to commit to meeting with a homebound adult once a month

  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, proof of insurance

Reports to CAN Lead

Must have:

  • An understanding of CAN’s mission

  • Ability to communicate via computer and/or smartphone

  • Ability to develop a connection with a homebound adult

  • Verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to Listen and encourage

Commitment: Volunteer drivers are expected to deliver groceries at a pre-determined time with a minimum of a 3 month commitment.
