Come help the Walking School Bus with winter audits! The Walking School Bus is a program in our Redondo, Manhattan, and Hermosa Beach communities where adult volunteers walk elementary school children along designated "bus" routes. This provides an opportunity for kids to get outside, exercise, and make friends!
All of our Walking School Bus routes in Redondo Beach will be going through routine walk audits in April, and we need your help. These audits provide us with valuable information regarding the route, duration, and leader behavior. They also help us give our cities information related to safety, so that they know what areas they can improve.
Volunteers will walk a Walking School Bus route from 7:15 AM - 8:30 AM, and fill out a form during or after the route. All volunteers will do training online or come to a one time training to discuss the audit and what to look for on the walk, and are welcome to volunteer once, or as many times as they may like.
We truly appreciate - as do all of the children at our Beach Cities schools - the help and joy our volunteers bring!

Beach Cities Health District (BCHD) is a healthcare district focused on preventive health and serves the communities of Hermosa Beach, Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach. Established in 1955 as a public agency, it offers an extensive range of dynamic health and wellness programs, with innovative services and facilities to promote health and prevent diseases across the lifespan.
Description
Focusing on wellness, not sickness, encourages people to make wiser healthcare decisions. Preventative causes of illness and death, like tobacco smoking, poor diet and physical inactivity, are estimated to be responsible for nearly a million deaths annually-almost 40 percent of total yearly mortality in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), about 90 percent of today’s healthcare costs are for treating people with chronic yet preventable diseases. BCHD’s wellness and healthy living programs and services are aimed at making prevention an integral part of the classrooms, workplace and homes of the beach cities.
To enhance community health through partnerships, programs and services for people who live and work in Hermosa, Manhattan and Redondo Beach.
