The Young Adult Learning Center

Volunteer tutors at the YALC work one-on-one or facilitate small groups of students, ages 17-24, preparing for the GED. Our greatest need is Monday-Thursday between 10:00 AM-2:30 PM, although we would welcome tutoring support throughout our academic day (8:30-3:30).In 2017, we will be launching an online credit recovery program and are looking for tutors on Fridays from 12:30-2:30 to assist students with content-area questions.

The YALC serves students who have been disengaged from the educational system and are returning to attain their GED. Many students also participate in workforce programs in partnership with DPW, DC Parks and People, and HBI.

We are seeking tutors for all subjects, especially individuals with expertise in math, reading, and writing. Our students' educational backgrounds vary, and our instructors rely on volunteer support so our students can receive the one-on-one attention they need for academic and personal succes.
