Love pets? We need foster homes.

Be a respite foster home for animals (dogs and cats) that belong to senior citizens, veterans, and disabled persons who need to be hospitalized. When no one is available to care for their pets, the pets may end up in a shelter. This is very unfair. These animals have a loving home and deserve to go home. Giving up a pet for medical reasons adds heartbreak and recovery time for the owner too.

Food and medical care are provided. All you provide is a safe place to stay and lots of love. We need people we can call on for a few days or a few weeks. You can turn down any call. We need lots of homes. These animals don't belong in a shelter. They just need temporary care. Great opportunity for seniors to help other seniors too! Respite care fostering is much more flexible than regular foster care. You can travel or volunteer seasonally too.

We also need foster homes for senior and special needs cats. We work with you to match the kitty to your home and lifestyle. Most are used to living with other cats, and some are used to dogs. We require dogs in the household to be cat safe, of course.

Sometimes we get cats that will not have a long ninth life due to age or disease. They deserve a home with lots of love during their ninth life. We support and train you.

Other times, we have kitties that just need a good home for recovery and rehabilitation from an illness or injury, while they wait for a special family to adopt them. They come with lots of love to give. All homes must be indoor only.

Medical costs are always covered in foster care.

We also offer foster-to-adopt cat placements. The foster-to-adopt program is designed to allow you to be sure there is a good fit for you and your new pet. Adoption is not our focus, but we occasionally have kitties that are ready to adopt. We are always available for support and training. We are usually able to provide free respite care and low-cost boarding for our adoptive families during vacations too.

We'll be happy to meet with you and help you decide which placements will work best. Please be located in the Austin, Texas metro area (Austin, Round Rock, Pflugerville) and nearby areas. If you rent, the rental must allow pets and permit fostering animals. Sadly, some allow pets but will not permit pet foster care.

Not all seniors and special needs cats are difficult or sick. Most simply want love, patience, and attention. We need you. They need you. You need them too!

Description

Catnip Casa Cat Refuge provides narrowly focused services for senior and special needs cats that require extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care due to age, disease, or disabilities, that does not allow them to remain in their home or community. Of course, we occasionally end up with animals that need adoption too, when an animal is well enough to find a forever family.

We also educate owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public, about caring for pets with challenges caused by age, disease, disabilities, or terminal illness. We strive to develop a network of persons, services, foster homes, and resources that benefit the community.

Catnip Casa mentors trappers and actively supports TNR (trap/neuter/release) for community cats.
