This opportunity is all about spending quality time with the kitties. We provide toys and help you get to know them. Most will need time to get used to you. Some of the kitties that need the most socialization are not quick to respond. You must have patience. Others love to play. This is why the job is very important. No special skills are needed except love and willingness to learn.

Volunteers must be over 18 and available weekday afternoons on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday between 1-4 pm for 1 to 3 hours. Our goal is to be as flexible as we can within that framework. It doesn't have to be all of those days or for the full 3 hours every time. We are a foster-home-based organization, and this work is located at the intake foster home.

Many of the cats at Catnip Casa Cat Refuge need extra attention to become more trusting of people. Others need someone to run a laser light or operate da' bird for exercise and physical therapy. They need exposure to people, lots of love, soft voices, and playtime.

If you have a knack for taking pictures, we always need more cute shots and witty captions for social media posts too. Maybe you want to help the cats do paw painting or other projects.

We have a variety of condos and catios. Expect to interact with the kitties on their terms and be comfortable sitting on the floor, kneeling, bending, reaching, and going through narrow doors into the condos and indoor catio areas. There are a few steps and uneven surfaces in some areas. We will accommodate whenever possible, but this is a private home without ADA accessibility.

We welcome diversity in our volunteers.

Please note: Because Catnip Casa senior and special needs kitties live in a private home (to give them a real home environment), the foster homes want volunteers working onsite to be fully vaccinated and willing to wear a mask for inside work. The health of our caregivers is extremely important.

Mission Statement

Catnip Casa Cat Refuge provides narrowly focused services for senior and special needs cats that require extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care due to age, disease, or disabilities, that does not allow them to remain in their home or community. We also support TNR in our local area and provide education for owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public.

Description

Catnip Casa Cat Refuge provides narrowly focused services for senior and special needs cats that require extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care due to age, disease, or disabilities, that does not allow them to remain in their home or community. Of course, we occasionally end up with animals that need adoption too, when an animal is well enough to find a forever family.

We also educate owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public, about caring for pets with challenges caused by age, disease, disabilities, or terminal illness. We strive to develop a network of persons, services, foster homes, and resources that benefit the community.

Catnip Casa mentors trappers and actively supports TNR (trap/neuter/release) for community cats.
