This is important work, really. Without cleaning and good care, the cats don't stay healthy. Without your help, we have less time to find homes and raise funds to help more cats. Where else can cleaning help save a life?
You must love cats, be over 18 years old, with no animal allergies, but no special skill or knowledge is required. The schedule is flexible and no minimum number of days per week is required. We ask for a 2 hour block of time to get work done.
You must be available to work 2 weekday afternoons, Monday or Tuesday and Thursday or Friday preferred, for at least two hours at a time between 12 and 4 pm. We are located in NE Austin, near Braker and I-35.
We need help with maintenance and cleaning of the outdoor catio shelters and indoor cat rooms. This is real cleaning and getting your hands dirty. Some of the duties needed are washing very large litter pans, scooping litter, cleaning cat trees (lots of fur to remove), vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, washing kitty dishes and fountains, perhaps a little painting, and whatever is needed to help maintain the shelter. Not all of it is required every time.
Some work may require lifting 20-30 pounds of litter and/or using a step stool to reach shelves, or working in small areas. There is substantial bending, reaching, and kneeling involved. The outdoor catio areas are not air conditioned, but we do have fans and misters. Most work is indoors.
Please, be good at following instructions and willing to do whatever is required. We offer a brief orientation session the first day and plenty of help to get to know the job. Our rescue is foster home based. The work is at the intake foster home where there are three cat rooms and two outside catio shelters. We do not have room for groups, but we will consider two friends who want to volunteer together and work well as a team.
