Our mini-farm is a component of Shire House, a program for young adults on the Autism spectrum.
Our mini-farm is in it's early stages, our volunteers have started with the setting up of 1 of 3 large planting areas. Volunteers are needed to continue the preparation for the other planting areas by weeding, tilling the soil, putting the planter boxes together, planting the seedlings and tending to the plants.
Volunteers are needed every Friday and Saturday between the hours of 8am to 7pm and they help with the amount of time they choose to give. Volunteers should have some knowledge regarding some or all of the details listed above and should be able to work independently.
Volunteers with the knowledge of irrigation installation and management, building a chicken coop and tending of chickens are needed as well.
Volunteers are also needed in the area of greenhouse management.
Some of the volunteer positions might lead to employment opportunities.
Please visit our website shirehouse.org to learn more about who we are and what we do.
First-time volunteers would first need to meet with a staff member, please contact us to set up a time to meet within the days and times mentioned above.
