You can make a HUGE difference at the YEAH! youth shelter by cooking dinner for the 28 folks who stay each night! You can come to a volunteer orientation to learn more, get prepared to volunteer, and sign up for shifts! Get in touch to RSVP!
YEAH! was founded in 2002 as a community response to youth homlessness. At YEAH!, young people ages 18-24 can access case management, mental health supports, groups, social activities, seasonal shelter, food, and basic necessities like food and clothing.
When the shelter opens at 8:00pm each night, youth have access to freshly cooked hot dinners, showers, and laundry, as well as hygiene products and clothing. We often have activities in the evening, including games, movies, and community meetings. Youth are able to store personal belongings in a secure lockers, and utilize a mat with clean sheets to sleep on. Breakfast is available each morning before we close at 8:00am.
YEAH! provides a warm and filling meal each night through the generosity of our awesome volunteers! Cooking dinner is a very important volunteer shift, and we need more folks to come make dinner possible each night in our shelter! Cooks come into YEAH! from 6:00 to 8:00pm so that dinner can be served by 8:00pm when the shelter opens. Folks may sign up as a pair, or they can sign up individually and be partnered with another volunteer. This is a great way to build community among your group, get to know other community members, and to support the youth community!
All volunteer cooks are asked to volunteer once a month. The shift is from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Volunteers need to attend an orientation before they start volunteering, but there is an orientation or two almost every week between now and the middle of December!
