Sherwood Public Library offers a free Homework Helper program for K-8th grade students. This is not private tutoring but rather helping kids overcome obstacles they might experience while doing their homework. Great environment! Excellent opportunity for college student, retired educator, the right high school student, or anyone who enjoys working with youth.
The ultimate goal of a Homework Helper is to help students help themselves by motivating them, building their confidence and engaging them in active learning.
This program is offered weekdays 3-5pm. We are currently recruiting for Tuesdays and/or Thursday.
- Must be at least 16 years of age
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Basic computer skills
Ability to work independently, but able to freely ask questions of staff
Enjoy working with others especially ages 5-13
Be dependable
Be patient, enthusiastic, flexible
Be diligent and committed to established weekly schedule

Description
The Community Services Department encompasses the Library, Sherwood Center for the Arts, Marjorie Stewart Senior/Community Center, the Sherwood Old Town Field House operations, volunteer services, field and gym scheduling, and the coordinating and planning of various cultural activities and events. The Community Services Department is responsible for planning and implementing recreation and cultural activities, volunteer services, and coordinating events such as Music on the Green and acting as a liaison to the YMCA and other community groups.
