The award winning Visiting Moms Program of Jewish Family and Children’s Service is expanding to Central Mass. If you are a mother with a few hours a week to spare, think about volunteering.
Visiting Moms is a home-based program that matches experienced, volunteer mothers with new mothers who would benefit from a supportive connection. The Visiting Mom volunteer, who receives training and ongoing supervision from CERS staff, visits the mother of a newborn once a week for an hour up to the baby's first birthday. By focusing on early parental support, with an emphasis on developing and strengthening capacities, Visiting Moms help mothers adjust to parenting and build a healthy relationship with their babies. The program not only provides an enriching, positive experience for each mother and baby served, but also for the volunteer Visiting Mom.
