Our friendly visitors (a.k.a. Direct Patient Care volunteers) provide non-medical support to the hospice patient and their families. These volunteers offer a friendly smile and a comforting presence to our patients and their families. They can provide caregiver relief, light housekeeping, light meal preparation, and/or assist with errands- based on patient/family needs and what YOU can provide as a volunteer. All of these kind gestures will mean a lot to our hospice patients and their loved ones.
Background check, drug screening, & TB testing are all required; however, costs are covered by the company. The on-boarding process takes about two weeks from interview to the assignment of a volunteer's first patient. Ongoing training and support is provided!
If you are dependable, consistent, caring and have great communication skills, this opportunity is for you! No medical background necessary!

We recognize that a person is more than a physical body and we provide skilled professionals and volunteers to assist with not only the physical needs, but emotional and spiritual needs as well.
The services you will give as a Hospice volunteer will profoundly improve the quality of our patient’s lives. Friendly visits enable families to keep their loved ones at home, around the people they love, and the things they love. Assisting with errands helps a tired family cope with their many challenges and allows them time with their loved one. Simply holding a patient’s hand can ease their mind and comfort their spirit.
Volunteering at Avalon Hospice (Murfreesboro) takes no advanced medical training or great commitment. It can be as simple as reading to, or spending time with a patient a few hours a week. It is small deeds of kindness that so profoundly enhance the lives of our patients and those who love them.
