Lighthouse Guild is the leading not-for-profit vision + health care organization with a longstanding heritage of serving the needs of people who are blind or visually impaired, as well as those with multiple disabilities or chronic medical conditions.

We help people of all ages who are at risk for, or are experiencing, vision loss. We provide services, research and education, and advocate to help people with low vision and blindness.

Lighthouse Guild provides many services for the visually impaired including reading services. Our Print Access Center which coordinates the reading services is currently seeking volunteers to become off-site readers.

Job Summary:

The volunteer should has knowledge with government policies and public administration. The volunteer will read the materials provided by the client. In addition to reading, the volunteer may be asked to conduct Internet searches, and otherwise support a client’s personal reading needs.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Travel to client’s home

  • Reading materials provided by client

  • Help with ideas and policies

  • Computer work

  • Comfortable with Microsoft Office


  • College level reader required.

  • Strong clear reading voice.
  • Able to read and type for an extended period of time
  • Ethical character and reliable.
  • Computer-savvy
  • Strong commitment to service required.
  • Trustworthy
  • Good interpersonal skills.

Location: Williamsburg, New York

Attire: Business/Business Casual (no jeans or sneakers)

DETAILS OF SERVICE OPPORTUNITY: This is an on-going opportunity that requires a six month commitment for at least 2 hours per week.
