The Dean P. Taylor Research Library at the Rensselaer County Historical Society (RCHS) has a large archive of primary documents, maps andphotographs, and secondary sources all focusingon Rensselaer County, New York’s history. The Library is open to researchers Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12noon to 5 pm.
We are seeking ongoing, long-term volunteers both to help patrons and to catalog collections. Potential volunteers are required to 1) submit a brief resume so we can assess their strengths/experience to best employ them in working in the library, and 2) attend a basic orientation to the museum/library and its collection. Sessions are held only every few months, so there could be a slightdelay in beginning work. Depending on experience, volunteers would then work beside current staff andvolunteers to prepare for helping patrons and doingcataloging. The ideal commitment would be at least 3 hours each week.

Mission Statement
The Rensselaer County Historical Society strives to enrich the present and advocate for the future by bringing the region's past to life, recognizing every face and every story. In pursuit of this mission, we collect, preserve, study, interpret, and make accessible a broad variety of objects and documents, and conduct educational programs to inspire public enthusiasm for the past.
Description
The Rensselaer County Historical Society and Museum is a dynamic not-for-profit educational organization established in 1927 to connect local history and heritage with contemporary life. Situated in the downtown Second Street Historic District in Troy, New York, the museum fulfills its mission from two adjacent 19th century townhouses -- the historic and architecturally significant Hart-Cluett House, which serves as a house museum, and the Carr Building, which houses exhibits, programs, and a research library.
