Job Description: English Tutoring Program (ETP) Manager

Program: Education

Context: The English Tutoring Program (ETP) is one of the most integral pieces of our Adult ESL services. It requires a detail-oriented, flexible, and creative Coordinator to implement and organize effectively. The program serves between 80-100 adult ELLs (English Language Learners) per month by matching volunteer ESL tutors with students who either need additional support outside of the ESL classes they attend at International House or have a desire to better their English, in general. Tutoring sessions take place in 2 different time slots on Thursdays: 10 am-12:00 pm and 6-8 pm. The ETP Manager oversees the ETP program, two coordinators, and approximately 50 tutors.

Skills: Proficiency in a language in addition to English is extremely helpful but not required. We’re looking for someone who has experience teaching and tutoring. The ideal candidate will be culturally sensitive. She/he should be able to think on her or his feet and demonstrate:

Responsibilities:The duties of the ETP Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead and update 3 orientation trainings per year
  • Create and lead 3 professional development sessions per year
  • Create new lesson plans, manipulatives, review books and other resources for tutor/student use
  • Collect money during the first two sessions of every cycle and give to the Director of Education
  • Sub in for ETP Coordinators in their absence
  • Create initial tutor/student pairing; update ETP binder
  • Place reminder calls to ETP students one week prior to the start of every cycle
  • Place reminder calls to ETP tutors on week prior to the start of every cycle
  • Monitor student attendance
  • Communicate any issues with coordinators and the Director of Education

Time Commitment:

  • Thursdays, 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm
  • 10 hrs/wk
