We are in dire need of some reliable and hardworking volunteers to join our FEED AND MUCK TEAMS. We have 9 horses, kept in paddocks and pastures during their time not spent in lessons. In inclement weather, we regularly bring them in to their covered stalls. Muckers will not be responsible for this, but feeders sometimes will.
FEEDERS: (breakfast: flexible between 6-8am, dinner: 5:30pm or later -DAILY)There is one fun fact that we can guarantee all prospective feeding volunteers, the horses will ALWAYS be ecstatic to see you! Our horses are fed hay and feed twice a day, it generally takes about an hour and a half, or so to complete. Some horses need to be separated for feeding, so confidence and experience around horses is necessary.
MUCKERS: (Flexible during business hours 6am-6pm- DAILY) Our Poop Patrol ROCKS! It’s not a glamorous job, but you’ll see all of us doing it! Some find it extremely peaceful to be alongside the horses in their environment , while others find satisfaction in just getting the job done. Barn chores are way more fun than housework ! We prefer to have our stalls and paddocks mucked at least once a day. No horse experience required, however, confidence around horses is necessary, as you will be in close proximity to them.

About OPEN MY WORLD THERAPEUTIC RIDING CENTER INC

Location:

5300 County Rd 279, LEANDER, TX 78641, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a safe and compassionate environment that fosters physical, emotional and behavioral growth, while utilizing the intuitive nature of the horse.

Description

Our Equine Assisted programs provide a unique form of physical therapy that is both unique and effective. Horses have a natural gait that closely mimics human walking, making them a perfect choice for individuals with physical disabilities and injuries. Some of the many benefits include improved balance, strength and coordination in addition to the incredible mental health benefits that horses naturally provide. Horses have a calming effect on people, which can help reduce anxiety, stress, and depression. The act of caring for a horse also teaches responsibility and can help build confidence and self-esteem. Participants with PTSD or addiction, for example, can benefit from equine therapy by learning coping skills and developing a sense of trust and connection with their therapy horse.
Horses provide a non-judgmental and despite their size, a non-threatening environment. This can benefit children and adults with mental illness, behavioral issues and learning disabilities by improving communication, relieving anxiety, increasing focus and so much more.
Our instructors encourage participants to be as involved in our program , off the horse, as they would like. We have several riders who have become some of our best volunteers, which has opened up new opportunities in their lives outside of the barn that they may not have pursued in the past.
