ORGANIZATION: Goodman Community Center

Goodman Community Center has an exciting opportunity to increase access to food for our food pantry clients through donations from Hy-Vee on East Washington Ave - all we need to do is pick it up! This food goes towards helping the 125 families that come to our pantry every week.

We only need one more volunteer to pick up a large donation once a week on Saturdays and deliver the food to GCC. Only a couple of hours each week would provide even more resources to all of the families who visit our pantry!

Hours are every Saturday from 10:30 am-12:30 pm (somewhat flexible but must start after 10 am), and volunteers are asked to make a three month commitment.

Volunteers must have a clean driving record, feel comfortable driving a cargo van, be able to lift 25 lbs many times over a 1-2 hour period, and be able to bend, stoop, twist, and kneel frequently when loading and unloading the vehicle. A volunteer with a pick-up truck could also use their own vehicle.

Description

The Goodman Community Center is not your average community center. As I get to talking with people about Goodman, they inevitably end up surprised. They’re surprised by how many programs and resources we offer, how beautiful our facilities are, or how many people we serve. Every year more than 30,000 people use the Center - some who come to one event, others who are very familiar faces here.

Thanks to our generous community, we just built and moved into a second beautiful facility across the street, the Brassworks building. We’re now reconfiguring and refreshing the Center’s first home on Waubesa Street, the Ironworks building. During this past ten years, we’ve nearly doubled in size.

Our staff are committed to learning and continually improving, too. That’s why each program uses a variety of tools to measure impacts for both the program overall, and for each individual participant. We use that data to constantly fine-tune what we do - and how we do it.

We’re glad Goodman is one of many organizations in the Madison area who are pouring themselves into making our community great - for us all. We hope you’ll join us. Because we know that every good thing that happens here is made possible by people like you.
