The City of Plano’s Love Where You Live (LWYL) program utilizes volunteers to provide minor home maintenance and repair service with a key focus on safety issues in the home. Many of our residents who need assistance include elderly on fixed incomes, veterans, single moms, and families with children or adults with disabilities. The home might be the last to get attention when these families are just trying to make ends meet.

Home sites are selected through a City application process. Typical repairs are completed in 3 hours. On a special basis, volunteers do work on projects that are complex and take more time than typical.

Experienced handymen are needed to assist with residential repairs and/or lead a group of novice volunteers to work on maintenance projectsincluding gutters, siding, painting, general carpentry, fence repair, tree trimming, and yard work. Major repairs such as: foundation, roofing, structural work, major home refurbishment and all work that may require a license are NOT provided.

Service day events are held in the Fall and Spring of each year. However, a list of home projects are available online from previous program areas that could be completed throughout the year. With the right skill sets and a willingness to help, your voluntary assistance will make a world of difference to our Plano residents.

For more information, contact Kala Krishnan or Craig Fisher in the BEST Neighborhoods Division regarding Love Where You Live at 972-208-8150 or visit www.plano.gov/LWYL.
