ORGANIZATION: Behind the Book

  • 49 people are interested

Behind the Book is a non-profit children's literacy organization that inspires New York City public school students to love reading. We bring accomplished authors into pre-K-12 classrooms in high-needs communities, where they lead workshops that guide students in creating their own writing and art projects. Our rich, innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula and meet Common Core Learning Standards, have a proven record of building literacy skills and creating engaged, motivated readers at schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Inwood, Harlem, and the Bronx.

BtB is looking for volunteer photographers to document students and authors during classroom workshops and field trips. This is a challenging task involving several children and a lot of activity, so it's a plus if you have experience with pre-kindergarteners to high school-age students.

Photographers may also cover events for fundraising and promotion of our mission, and/or shoot portraits of staff, board members, and volunteers for social media, publications, and promotional campaigns. They might also appear in the books written and illustrated by our students as their classroom projects. All images will be credited.

To apply or for more information, please contact volunteer@behindthebook.org. Include a link to your website, portfolio or samples of your work.
