Behind the Book is a non-profit children's literacy organization that inspires New York City public school students to love reading. We bring accomplished authors into K-12 classrooms in high-need communities, where they lead workshops that guide students in creating their own writing and art projects based on the theme of the author's book. Our rich, innovative programs, which are part of the class curricula and meet Common Core Learning Standards, have a proven record of building literacy skills and creating engaged, motivated readers in schools in Manhattan, Brooklyn, Inwood, Harlem, and the Bronx.

BtB is looking for volunteer photographers to document students and authors during classroom workshops and field trips. This is a challenging task involving several children and a lot of activity, so it's a plus if you have experience with pre-kindergarteners to high school-age students.

Photographers may also cover events for fundraising and promotion of our mission, and/or shoot portraits of staff, board members, and volunteers for outreach campaigns.

All images will be credited. They might appear on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, BtB's website, in printed material, and in the professionally published books written and illustrated by our students as their classroom projects.
