Walk MS

The National MS Society is looking for volunteers to help with our upcoming event - Walk MS: Canandaigua held on Sunday, May 19 at Sonnenberg Gardens. There are many ways to get involved and help make this event successful while working towards a world free of MS.

Groups and individuals of all ages and abilities are invited to volunteer. We are always looking for youth clubs, corporate and service-oriented community groups to lend a hand before, during, and after our events.

Walk MS: Canandaigua - Volunteer Positions

Volunteer Check-in Team

Volunteer Check-in Table - Prepare volunteer paperwork, instruct on how to complete paperwork, and direct volunteers to their assigned positions.

Registration Team

Registration Greeter: Greet and help guide participants approaching the registration table to the correct line to stand in. Ask participants if they have their envelope/forms filled out. If not, instruct them to the specified table to do so.

Registration table: Greet and process event participants by ensuring envelopes and/or consent forms are completed. *A background check is required for this position.

T-shirt Table: Organize and handout event t-shirts to anyone who raised $125. Located behind the registration table.

Event Team

Event setup/clean-up: Assist with putting up/taking down tables, chairs, pop-up tents, and decorations.

Parking Attendant: Help direct incoming participant traffic and facilitate orderly and timely departure of traffic.

Merchandise Sales: Organize and distribute MS pamphlets and flyers, manage MS mission sales, and answer questions. *A background check is required for this position.

Concessions: Serve event participants food and drinks, stock napkins, cups, plates, and help keep the concession area clean.

End MS Forever Banner Table: Encourage participants and volunteers to sign our End MS Forever banner.

Living with MS Table: Greet participants, assist with filling out the Living with MS information card, and pass out the Living with MS t-shirt.

Photographer: Take photos of the event and then send them to the event organizer soon after the event to share with event participants. *Must have own camera.

Rest Stop: Handout water and snacks to participants as they pass the rest stop, fill water/Gatorade coolers when they get low, and help keep the rest stop clean. Volunteers may need to setup the rest stop and will need to pack up and ensure the location is clean at the end of the event.

Start/Finish Spirit Team: Cheer on event participants as they make their way around the course to help keep them motivated. There may be noise makers, pom-poms, etc. for the spirit team to cheer on the participants as they finish.

Route Clean-up: Following the last participant, walk along the path to take down directional arrows and gather cones.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services to people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Seeking out and engaging volunteers to the MS cause is at the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers three key fundraising activities: The Bike MS Ride, Walk MS and Walk MS Challenge. The Society also engages volunteers to help influence law-makers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.
