Quest Exchange has been providing quality international programs for high school students for over 15 years. We rely on the help of our Local Coordinators to directly supervise our students and host families. A position is currently open in Fitchburg MA! This opportunity is excellent for those who are interested in interacting with youth and learning about other cultures, and for those who have traveled or lived abroad.
Our Korean student in Fitchburg is in his returning year as a Junior. He does well in school, is social and gets along with his host family. Interested applicants can find out more about the student.
This opportunity does not require a big time commitment, but it's very important that the person has the desire to help an international student adjust to life in America. The local coordinator is the student's support outside of the host family, and an emergency contact should any problems arise during the program. This is a paid position but not lucrative ($50 a month for supervision), so it is volunteer in nature.
Responsibilities of the Local Coordinator will include:
Complete the Quest training. A Quest representative will walk you through all the steps which include a background check, online application, reviewing program materials. Each step is brief and onboarding is swift!
Meet the student and host family after onboarding is complete.
Contact the student a couple of times throughout the month and once near the end of the month to complete the monthly report. This can be done in person, over the phone, text, or via email.
Contact the host family at least once a month and have the host family or school officials keep you up to date on report cards and progress in school.
Submit an online monthly report at the end of every month to mark the student’s progress. It should take around 10-15 minutes to complete the report with information gathered from contact with the student, host family, and school.
Assist with student issues that may arise. These are typically small misunderstandings with the host family or school. If at any time you feel uncomfortable handling a situation on your own, Quest will be there to help.
Be a resource for your student! Young people abroad may have difficulties adjusting to a new environment, and your moral support can mean a lot.
If you are interested in this opportunity or know somebody that would be well-suited for this, please contact regional manager Mei Jardstrom at mei@questexchange.org, or call our office at (415) 665-3900. We look forward to hearing from you!
