Each year, DESC sets out to make sure every person we serve receives a gift during the holidays, and we need your help.
At any one time we have about 2500 people who are receiving our services through out Seattle. With your help, all of the vulnerable men and women who rely on DESC- those fortunate to be housed, those living in our shelters, even those sleeping outdoors- will receive a small holiday gift.
Gifts cost between $10-$25 each. Many of the items can be found at the dollar store, or discount stores. Then you get together, assemble the bags and bring them to DESC.
If you can commit to a large enough number, you can adopt a whole shelter or program. For example, with 64 bags, you can cover all of the residents of the Lyon supportive housing program. There are programs that are as small as ten people and as big as 290, and we would happily accept any amount you could make.
If this seems a bit too ambitious, please consider doing a drive for the $5 gift cards, which are the hardest things to gather, and are the most appreciated by our clients. Or perhaps you can do a men's sock drive. We've never had enough men's socks.
Please let us know if you will be able to help and we can get your more information about how to assemble a bag (including promotional flyers), drop-off locations (or arranging a pick-up) anything else you might have a question about.
Thanks for your consideration and help in making this a happy holiday for all.
