Did you know that 1 in 5 underserved families do not get their kids involved in youth sports because of the price of sporting equipment? Leveling the Playing Field collect & distributes used sporting equipment to programs serving low income youth in the DC/Baltimore area. In 3 years we have donated just under a million dollars worth of equipment impacting over 80,000 kids locally.
This is an opportunity to help sort donations that are coming in as well as going out. Volunteers will work in our warehouse sorting equipment like baseball gloves, soccer balls, hockey pads and much much more. With donations coming in and out every week we always need help keeping things organized. Help us get kids into the game!
The purpose of Leveling the Playing Field (LTPF) is to give underprivileged children the opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of athletic involvement. LTPF collects donations of sports equipment from various collegiate athletic departments, county recreation departments, families and individual donors from across the nation. Studies show that students who participate in interscholastic athletics have higher grade point averages, attendance rates, standardized test scores, educational aspirations, health habits and feelings of connection and belonging. LTPF recognizes that giving children the prospect of athletics can change their lives!
Leveling the Playing Field works to locate children living under the poverty line who are not being given a equal chance at athletic participation. We recognize the importance sport can play in a child's life. Whether it is simply to bring that child joy within their adverse situation or allowing a child to use sport to learn extremly valubale life skills, sport is vitally important to young people. Once we have identified an area of need, we work within the community to locate various sources of used/excess sporting equipment. We place donation bins, host equipment drives, and reach out to collegiate and professional teams. These tactics not only collect equipment to fill this need but also involves a whole community in a fun community service project.
