A gentleman who lives in Long Beach would be grateful to have a patient, caring, and attentive visitor for just 1 hour a week. He was a professional poet and artist before Alzheimer's disease was diagnosed. He is still talkative and friendly. His family is working very hard to keep him in their home. A visitor would be a joy for him and a break for the family. This particular senior has been waiting many months for a Volunteer Friendly Visitor.
Maybe someone in your family has or had Alzheimer's Disease? You know how isolating it can be for the senior and the family member. You'd like to make a difference for this senior.
No special training is needed, just the patience and time to spend with a senior who has moderate Alzheimer's Disease.
No personal or home care is involved. JUST A VISIT.
Our agency is Volunteer Action for Aging, a Community Service division of SCAN Health P lan . We coordinate a Friendly Visitor program to assist isolated, lonely seniors in their home. Our Friendly Visitor program is free of charge.
If this sounds like something special and rewarding for you, please go onto our website scan.samaritan.com. Find the LA County Friendly Visitor program on the site to complete an application.
