Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is a free tax preparation service for qualifying individuals and families in Santa Barbara County. Tax returns are prepared and completed by IRS-certified volunteers each year from February through April throughout south Santa Barbara County. In 2014, VITA volunteers helped file a total of 3,137 tax returns with a combined tax return amount of $4,317,441 (includes estimated saving in tax preparation in the amount of $392,494).
Tax Site Interpreters will assist tax preparers and tax assistance clients during the filing process with translation and during the intake process at various sites in Santa Barbara and Goleta. Volunteers must be bilingual (Spanish and English speaking). This position does not require IRS Certification but volunteers must complete the IRS Standards of Conduct Exam.
