Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is a free tax preparation service for qualifying individuals and families in Santa Barbara County. Tax returns are prepared and completed by IRS-certified volunteers each year from February through April throughout south Santa Barbara County. In 2015, VITA volunteers helped file a total of 3,137 tax returns with a combined tax return amount of $4,317,441 (includes estimated saving in tax preparation in the amount of $392,494).
Tax Site Greeters will welcome incoming tax assistance clients, provide directions for completing intake forms, and direct/manage traffic flow at various sites in Santa Barbara and Goleta. This position does not require IRS certification but volunteers must complete the IRS Standards of Conduct Exam.
