Our Mission: For 50 years, Meals On Wheels Atlanta (MOWA) has supported senior independence through meals, shelter, education and community. We deliver 130,000 nourishing meals to homebound seniors in Atlanta annually, provide home repair service, manage seven senior centers, an Adult Day Health Center focused on helping seniors and their families manage Alzheimer's and dementia, and a senior companion program. The number of seniors grows daily as does the need for our services.
Outline of Adult Day Health: The Vivian T. Minor Adult Day Health Center (ADH) provides respite care and assistance to those with Alzheimer’s or Dementia and their caregivers. Our medical model center offers a full-time LPN and part-time RN and CNA to assist with most medical needs. Participation in ADH ensures that our clients are able to remain in their own homes, with their families longer. We utilize the Eden At Home approach to care for our seniors. We provide daily small group activities, nutritious hot breakfast and lunch, trained medical staff that manages medication and incontinence, monthly excursions, and transportation.
Outline of Volunteer Opportunity with Adult Day Health: Individual or group volunteers can join our Adult Day Health program, which hosts seniors with Alzheimer’s and dementia, for a day of arts & crafts, karaoke, board games and/or bingo. Volunteers should arrive at 10 am and plan to remain until around 2 pm. To ensure a successful experience, volunteers are welcome to bring a karaoke machine (w/mic and music) and bingo prizes. Bingo prizes consist of small toiletry items (i.e. soap, mouthwash, and toothpaste).
